It's finally giving season! Towards the end of every year, Meals on Wheels Durham offers multiple opportunities for community members to spread holiday cheer around Durham County. From making a difference on Thanksgiving Day to wrapping and delivering gifts to clients, everyone can get involved and give back this holiday season.
In December, each Meals on Wheels Durham client receives a gift they've selected from a carefully curated list of special items — a tradition made possible by contributions from generous community members.
You can help make our holiday program a success and brighten the season for a senior in our community. Here's how to participate:
Donate funds to buy gifts for a delivery route or multiple routes. We will put your contribution to work right away purchasing, wrapping, and delivering the special gifts you've made possible.

Purchase gifts yourself from our Amazon Wishlist. Email Danielle Corcione at danielle@mowdurham.org to receive a list of clients and the items they have selected.
Once you receive the gift list, supporters can either:
- Purchase and ship gifts directly to MOWD from our Amazon Wishlist; or
- Have gifts delivered to your residence, wrap them at home, and deliver to the MOWD office.
Please deliver all gifts to the MOWD office no later than Friday, December 2.
Address: 2522 Ross Road, Durham, NC 27703
Not only can you adopt a route and purchase gifts, you can wrap and deliver them to our clients! As gifts pile in, volunteer to wrap gifts on-site Tuesday through Friday.
Sign ups for gift wrapping and to deliver gifts—along with weekly meals— will be available soon on Scheduler.
Holiday Hot Meal
After the gifts are wrapped and delivered—it's time to eat!
Since 1980, MOWD and the Judea Reform Congregation deliver a hot, holiday meal—prepared by a local eatery— to clients around Christmas. This year’s holiday meal will be prepared by Zweli's Kitchen and will be delivered on Friday, December 23.
If you or a group are interested in delivering holiday meals, sign up for a route on Scheduler. To donate to support the holiday meal delivery, click here.
If you have more questions, email our Volunteer Services Coordinator, Rena Fraade, at rena@mowdurham.org or call our office at 919-667-9424.
Wrap Holiday Gifts
Our holiday shop is filling up with gifts for clients, and we need a few elves to work some magic with ribbons and papers!
Throughout December, Meals on Wheels Durham will host several on-site gift-wrapping parties. You and a group for coworkers and friends can volunteer to wrap gifts and rock out to holiday music. Email rena@mowdurham.org to schedule a day to wrap gifts for seniors.

Thank you to everyone who spent their Thanksgiving morning delivering hot meals to over 360 homebound seniors!
Volunteers will pick up meals at The Durham Rescue Mission building, located at 1201 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701 between 10:00 and 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 24.
Route details will go live on the Mobile Meals App the morning of delivery.
