Thanksgiving meal delivery

Join us for a heartwarming morning of giving back! Every year, Meals on Wheels Durham teams up with The Durham Rescue Mission to deliver scrumptious, hot Thanksgiving meals to MOWD clients. This November 23rd, gear up for a morning filled with gratitude, love, and a dash of holiday magic. It's the perfect chance for families, friends, or coworkers to bond while giving back to the community.

Meal Pick Up: Durham Rescue Mission (1201 E Main St, Durham, NC)

We're looking for 50 dedicated drivers to make this event a success. Come be a part of this special holiday tradition!

Volunteers will pick up meals at The Durham Rescue Mission building, located at 1201 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701 between 9:00 and 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 23.

Holiday Gift Program

Spread Holiday Cheer with Meals on Wheels Durham! In December, every Meals on Wheels Durham client gets to unwrap a special gift they've personally chosen from our thoughtfully curated list of items. This heartwarming tradition is made possible by the kindness of our community.

Donate to support a delivery route, select gifts on our Amazon wish list, volunteer to wrap presents, or deliver these festive surprises to our clients' doorsteps. There are numerous ways to make a different this season.

Donate funds to buy gifts for a delivery route or multiple routes. We will put your contribution to work right away purchasing, wrapping, and delivering the special gifts you've made possible.

Adopt a Route Breakdown:

  • Two routes worth of gifts: $1,000
  • One route worth of gifts: $500
  • Half a route worth of gifts: $250
  • One gift: $25

Select and purchase gifts directly via our Amazon Wishlist. Email Danielle Corcione at danielle@mowdurham.org to receive a list of clients and the items they have selected.

Once you receive the gift list, supporters can either:

  1. Purchase and ship gifts directly to MOWD from our Amazon Wishlist; or
  2. Have gifts delivered to your residence, wrap them at home, and deliver to the MOWD office.

Please deliver all gifts to the MOWD office no later than Friday, December 1.

Address: 2522 Ross Road, Durham, NC 27703

 Holiday Volunteering

Join us in making this holiday season extra special for homebound seniors. As a volunteer, you can be the reason for their smiles and warmth during this festive time. Your efforts will bring holiday cheer and connection to those who might otherwise spend this season alone or far from loves ones. Help us make their holidays brighter by dedicating your time and spreading joy to those in need.

Our holiday shop fills up with gifts for clients, and MOWD relies on the help of volunteer elves to work some magic with ribbons and bows!

Throughout early December, Meals on Wheels Durham hosts on-site gift-wrapping parties. You and a group of coworkers and friends can join in, wrapping gifts to the cheerful tunes of holiday music. Simply reach out to Madison Coleman at madison@mowdurham.org to schedule a day of spreading joy through beautifully wrapped gifts for seniors.

After the gifts are wrapped and delivered—it's time to eat!

Since 1980, MOWD and the Judea Reform Congregation have come together to provide a hot, festive meal to our clients around Christmas. This year's Christmas meal will be delivered on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023.

If you or a group are interested in delivering these special holiday meals, please get in touch with Madison Coleman at madison@mowdurham.org.

During the holiday season, many homebound older adults may find themselves alone or far from family and friends. Let's make sure no senior in Durham goes hungry or feels forgotten. Join us in delivering nutritious meals to those who need it most.
