Barbara “Bobbi” Matchar is a social worker with the Duke Dementia Family Support Program, which provides education, support, and engagement for people living with memory loss and their families. She directed the program until 2025, when she transitioned to a part-time role to make more time for volunteer work, family, friends, and travel.
Bobbi holds master’s degrees in social work and healthcare administration, and has worked in the field of aging since 1980. She has a longstanding interest in addressing food insecurity, having volunteered for many years with the Inter-Faith Council Community Kitchen in Chapel Hill and is currently volunteering at the Emanuel Food Pantry in Durham. She is also an active volunteer in the Jewish community.
Bobbi has three adult children and lives in Durham with her partner, Paul. Together, they have five grandchildren.
