SENIOR SANTA – This December Meals on Wheels of Durham needs help to play Santa to the homebound seniors of Durham County.
From now until Friday, December 13, Meals on Wheels of Durham will be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, robes, pajamas, slippers, blankets, pillows, sets of towels, wall calendars, large print puzzle books, and gift cards to discount stores for all of the meal recipients. The organization strives to provide each one with something for Christmas. For some of the clients, this may be the only gift they receive. We are also accepting donations of wrapping paper.
Gift items are gratefully accepted wrapped or unwrapped. Please label wrapped gifts if they are size or gender specific. Please deliver items from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to 2522 Ross Road Durham, NC 27703. For more information, or to adopt a senior for Christmas, contact Meals on Wheels of Durham at 919-667-9424 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Stewards Fund has challenged Meals on Wheels of Durham to raise $35,000 from new donors, increased gifts from existing donors, and funds from lapsed donors (any donor who did not give in the last 12 months). The challenge period is from October 15th, 2013 to January 15th 2014. Please help us meet this all-or-nothing challenge! The $35,000 matching gift is essential to MOW Durham’s ability to continue feeding homebound members of the Durham community.
Established in 1975, Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. delivers hot, nutritious meals to Durham County residents who are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves. Since its inception, Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. has served more than 1.75 million meals through the generous help and support of its staff, volunteers, donors and sponsors.
Our Mission: To enhance the quality of life for seniors, people with disabilities and other eligible citizens in our community who are unable to provide proper nutrition for themselves.
Our Vision: To have the capacity to ensure that any member of our community who needs our services will receive them.
Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. is a non-profit agency committed to enhancing the quality of life for eligible homebound adults in our community. Our mission is to serve the elderly, frail, disabled, convalescing and others who cannot provide proper nutrition for themselves. Dedicated volunteers deliver lunches to our clients each weekday, with the objective of improving the nutritional status and health of these individuals. It is our goal to provide the combination of nutritious meals and social contact that will help our clients to remain independent as long as possible.
Participation in a Meals on Wheels program can help individuals reduce the chance of premature institutionalization; allow elderly married couples to remain together in the comfort of their own home; and remove a significant barrier preventing or delaying the discharge of a patient from a hospital or institution, thereby permitting the convalescing process to occur in the familiar surroundings of one’s own home.
