Letter from Executive Director, Jason Peace about Meals on Wheels Durham's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meals on Wheels Durham Supporters,
We hope that you and your family are doing well during this difficult time.
Every day, the Meals on Wheels Durham (MOWD) staff and board are amazed by the generosity of our stakeholders and the community. Thank you- your kindness has been instrumental in helping us continue “feeding the need”.
As an essential service nonprofit, our goal has been to continue serving our clients the same amount of nutritious meals during the COVID-19 pandemic. While our operational model has shifted to keep our clients, volunteers, and staff safe, our commitment has not- we are continuing to serve hundreds of seniors throughout Durham County.
Thanks to support from individuals and companies across North Carolina and beyond, we have been able to meet the increased need of current clients while onboarding new clients during this time! We would like to recognize the following organizations for their generosity: Biogen Foundation, Duke-Durham Fund for COVID-19 Emergency Relief for Communities, Meals on Wheels America, United Way of the Greater Triangle Rapid Response Fund, Westminster Church and Whole Foods Durham.
We could not continue to fulfill our mission without the hours of time our volunteers continue to donate weekly. Thank you to our old and new volunteers who have helped us rise to the occasion over the past month, you are an integral part of our operations. We also want to recognize and thank every individual who has donated money, masks, sanitizer, Ensure, and more; your kindness and contributions are invaluable to our clients. Not only are we able to provide them with nutritious meals, but the security in knowing where their next meal is coming from has lasting benefits for their mental health as well.
If you have not had the opportunity to do so yet, please consider supporting our COVID-19 relief efforts. You can help in many ways, including signing up to volunteer, writing a card for a senior, donating items from our Amazon wish list, advocating for the services we provide, and sharing our efforts with your network. Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this challenging time.
