March 20th: MOWD Coronavirus Update

3-20-2020 COVID-19 Update

Thank you for your generosity this week! Your donations of time and money have enabled us to continue serving our clients amid the coronavirus pandemic.

This week with your help, we prepared and delivered over 5,500 meals for Meals on Wheels Durham clients! Our clients will have the same amount of meals while our delivery services are suspended from Monday, March 23rd – Friday, April 3rd. It is imperative to us that while we stop delivery for two weeks to keep our clients healthy, they do not miss a meal.

Equally important for our clients is socialization. During the two weeks of non-delivery, clients will still be contacted multiple times a week via phone for check-ins. We will begin once a week delivery to all of our clients on Monday, April 6th. Each client will receive five meals, and our weekend meal clients will receive their weekend meals during those deliveries.

We will continuously revisit and reevaluate our policies as the situation around COVID-19 evolves. When we have an update, we will send an email to all volunteers. All updates will also be posted on mowdurham.org/blog and all social media channels. If you would like to help during this time, please consider donating at mowdurham.org and annotate that it is for COVID-19. If you are interested in signing up to deliver frozen boxes on Mondays starting April 6th, please fill out a volunteer application at mowdurham.org/volunteer.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support- we could not feed the need without you!
