| Q. What is sponsorship?
Ans. Sponsorship is when a person or an organization provides a preset amount of financial support to Meals on Wheels of Durham. Sponsorship funds are usually targeted at funding specific items or programs, such as paying for emergency meals, volunteer T-shirts, or for funding Meals on Wheels facilities and equipment. |
| Q. Why should I become a sponsor?
Ans. Sponsors play a vital role by ensuring continued financial support for our meal program. We rely on our sponsors to defray the cost of obtaining, preparing and delivering meals to our clients.
Sponsors receive acknowledgment and exposure - on our web site, within our offices, and Special Event programs - which is a great way to recognize your contribution to furthering our mission. Sponsorship is also a great way to honor an individual, church, business, school, community group, etc. that has made an impact on our community.
Please recall that Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and donations made to Meals on Wheels are generally tax deductible. Always seek the advice of a tax professional when determining whether your contributions qualify for deduction. |
| Q. How much does it cost to become a sponsor?
Ans. Whether your budget is as little as $10 or as great as $3000, we provide opportunities for sponsorship at nearly a dozen discrete monetary levels representing a variety of Meal Sponsorship Plans. | Q. What are the costs of delivering Meals on Wheels?
Ans. Meals cost $4 each; therefore $20 pays for 5 meals, $60 pays for 12 meals, etc. We spend approximately:
- $3,000 per year on Emergency Meals (4 per client per year—used when inclement weather knocks out power and Meals on Wheels of Durham is closed)
- $1,680 per month on Frozen Meals (for clients who qualify to receive a meal, but are not at home on a regular basis)
- $1,200 per month for Saturday meals (for clients that need us to provide meals on weekends)
- $80-$92 per month for each client (20-23 days of meals)
